What to do if you feel stuck in life

I might happen that people feel stuck in a situation or mental state in life.

Most of the times, patients blame their life circumstances or struggles for the paralyzing feelings.

It is true that life has painful and anxiety provoking challenges, however it is important to consider the symbolic position that the subject has which determines his/her response in one way or another when facing different issues, so at the end it is not about what it is happening but rather about what the subject is doing in those circumstances.

Therefore, taking responsibility for the personal response is imperative in order to find an exit to the problem.

People who feel stuck might present symptoms of depression or/and anxiety since probably they have been struggling with stagnation for a long time. These detrimental symptoms are just the top of the iceberg, not the main problem.

Sometimes, people need to explore their own history and previous responses to similar situations. Fear to lose, change, fail, take risks, etc., might be part of the problem. In order to gain something new in life something has to be lose, perhaps even the enjoyment in the symptom or its secondary benefits among many other things. The solution to feeling trapped in a situation is always a loss of jouissance.

Feeling stuck in many cases is the result of being in the place of completing the Other and not finding ways to get out from it.

Therefore, psychotherapy sessions might help to find the way to move from this position.  It is fundamental to grasp that stagnations do not change magically, an investment in time and work has to be done in order to get benefits from a therapeutic process.

The personal route of feeling stuck/trapped needs to be put into words many times until a difference appears, until something new emerges. Moving from this position opens the possibility to desire and change.
